WordPress 4.0 Release is around the corner

WordPress 4.0 will be released later this month, probably at the end of August and while I normally wait and see what the future brings us, I thought to let you know, some really good stuff will be handled in the new WordPress 4.0 release. If you are regularly working with WordPress and you update your blog with long blog posts, you will be happy that your Editor will keep the toolbars “with your blog post while editing” and this is really good news. It was so annoying that when you were writing longer blog posts, you had to scroll all the way up, just to make a single word Italic or put a link there. This will be history folks and that is great news!

What else is in the WordPress 4.0 Release?

As you can see above, in 4.0 the plugin view is going to change dramatically, which gives a better overview of your plugins. If you have a lot of plugins you might not like it, because it will take a little scrolling I guess, but overall it gives a far better experience. Further, the following have been announced as updates in the new version of WordPress:

  • Selectable language when installing WordPress (no more mistakes when installing)
  • Improved formatting functions
  • As I mentioned above, improvements to the resizing of the editor. You can now resize its top and bottom bars when needed.
  • Widgets in the Customizer area are now loaded in a separate panel.
  • Media library gets a new grid view in addition to a list view.
  • An overall refreshed plugin install and search experience.
  • Apparently hundreds of bug fixes (wow!).
